In our high-tech, rapid-fire world it's easy to lose touch with the 'little' things that make so much difference in the way you're perceived by people who are important to your business.
Here's a simple thing you can be doing to help you make an impression that will cause prospects, clients and centers-of-influence to think highly of you . . . and THAT is the basis of all subtantial relationships in business.
Read on for this 'gem' of an idea you can use . . . NOW!
OK, here you go . . .
Send a personal note to people who are important to your business. That's it!
You can get small 'tent' cards from most any office supply store like Staples or Office Max and with your MS Word software you can create a template for 'Thank You', 'Thinking of You . . . ' or the like. That's your front cover.
The outside back cover should present your name, company, street address and telephone.
Inside you can leave blank. That's where you put your message -- hand-written -- of course!
The good news is that you don't have a lot of space. That means you don't have a lot to write! But here's the secret . . . it's not the length of your message . . . it's that you cared enough to even think to send one in the first place.
Quick Recap:
• in a high-tech, rapid-fire world, personal touches stand out!
• sending people personal notes (tent-cards) help YOU to 'stand out' to people that matter
• keep it simple . . . and keep a supply on hand for those 'moments of truth' you'll have with people but might 'lose' the value of . . . if you can't respond in an easy and timely manner with a 'personal note'
• do it regularly
When To Use Your Personal Notes:
• After you have received a kindness or thoughtful action from anyone
• When you want to let someone know you were thinking about them
• When you want to share a comment of praise that you've overheard about someone
• When you are 'away on business' . . . and you want to let people know you're thinking about them
• When you have useful information or an introduction you'd like to share with someone
OK, you get the idea. The basis for writing a brief thought in a short note and sending it doesn't have to be earth-shattering, late-breaking news! All it has to be is a symptomatic reflection that you're thinking of someone . . . even when you're not with them.
Why Bother?
I believe that anything you do consistently is going to become a habit. And sending personal notes to people who are prospects, clients and Centers-of-Influence for you will do much to ensure your success in business and your enjoyment from the way you live your life.
Afterall, in order to express appreciation for others and their kindnesses, you must 'tune-in' to it in the first place! And an attitude of Thankfulness correlates highly with people who tend to find the 'good' things in life more than the 'bad' things in life. A pretty good 'payoff' if I do say so myself!
OK, Here's Your Assignment:
1) GET yourself a supply of 25 notecards -- from a local printer or do them yourself with help from Staples!
2) FIND just one (1) person each day to send a card to -- a client who referred you to someone, a prospect who impressed you for a good reason, anyone who's done something worth acknowledging
3) JOT a brief note -- good penmanship or not -- and, then . . .
4) MAIL it to them
You'll find the rewards of this simple, daily practice are awesome!
For one thing, you'll have formed a habit that will help you in your business and future success.
For another, you'll find that the simple, daily practice of 'seeking the good' in your life . . . will come back to you many times over in diverse and wonderfully unpredictable ways. As my good friend JoAnna Brandi says, "Bread on the waters . . . comes back as French Toast!".
Try it . . . you'll love it!
